Dance Class FAQs – Alloa Ballet Company

Getting Started

  • We welcome children from as young as one year through to teens and then we also offer adult classes. Classes are carefully structured by age and stage of development, so each child is placed in an appropriate group where they can feel comfortable and supported.

  • Yes - we offer a two-week free trial for new students. This gives your child time to settle in and see if the class feels right. Book your free trial now -spaces fill quickly.

  • You can book a trial by contacting us directly or through the enquiry/booking options on our website. We will guide you to the most suitable class based on your child’s age and experience.

  • First classes are relaxed and welcoming. Children are introduced to the teacher, the space, and simple class activities. The focus is on helping them feel comfortable while having fun and building confidence.

Classes and Levels

  • Classes are grouped by age and ability to ensure each child is learning at a pace that suits them. As students progress, they may move into more advanced classes based on development and readiness.

  • No experience is required. Many of our students start as complete beginners, and classes are designed to support all levels.

  • We offer a range of dance styles including ballet and other complementary genres depending on age group and class level. This allows students to build strong technical foundations while exploring different movement styles.

Uniform & Preparation

  • Students should wear appropriate dancewear that allows freedom of movement. Hair should be tied back away from the face. Specific uniform requirements may vary depending on the class and level, and we will advise you on this when you enrol.

  • Some classes require specific footwear or uniform items to support safe training and consistency. Full guidance is provided so families know exactly what is needed. We have a preloved box of items that can be purchased for the dance students.

  • Students should bring:

    • A water bottle

    • Suitable dancewear

    • Hair secured away from the face (for all classes)

    • A positive attitude and willingness to participate

Exams & Progression

  • Yes, students have the opportunity to work towards recognised dance exams through established syllabi such as RAD and ISTD, depending on their class pathway.

  • No, exams are not compulsory. They are offered as an option for students who are ready and interested in progressing in this way. We also offer class awards, that are less stressful for our students.

Experience & Wellbeing

  • We focus on creating a supportive, family-oriented environment where students feel encouraged, valued, and confident. Alongside technical training, we place strong emphasis on wellbeing, personal growth, and enjoyment.

  • Our classes are designed to build confidence gradually. Teachers create a welcoming atmosphere where children feel safe to participate at their own pace, without pressure. In ou younger classes, we have some class assitants who support our younger dancers.

  • Yes. We value strong relationships with families and aim to create a community where parents feel included, informed, and supported throughout their child’s journey.
