Introducing Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) to Our Vocational Classes
We are delighted to be introducing Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) into our Intermediate Foundation vocational classes, starting this week following the Easter break.
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our dancers’ development, PBT will be incorporated as a monthly enhancement to their training programme.
Supporting Technique Through Understanding
PBT is a specialised training programme designed to support and improve classical ballet technique. It focuses on helping dancers understand how their bodies work, developing the correct muscle engagement needed for strength, control and precision.
Rather than simply repeating movements, students begin to understand how and why they are moving in a certain way -something that has a direct impact on the quality and consistency of their technique.
Why It Matters
At Intermediate Foundation level, dancers are beginning to work at a more demanding standard. Strength, alignment and body awareness become increasingly important as they progress.
PBT supports this by:
Strengthening core stability
Improving posture and alignment
Reinforcing correct muscle memory
Supporting injury prevention
While the main focus is on improving technique, these additional benefits help dancers train more safely and effectively over time.
How It Will Work
PBT will take place once a month within vocational classes, allowing students to build their understanding gradually and apply what they learn directly into their regular training.
Having originally trained in Progressing Ballet Technique in 2017, I have used elements of this approach within classes over the years. We are now taking a more structured approach, embedding PBT more consistently within our vocational programme to maximise its impact on students’ development.
A Valuable Addition to Training
This addition reflects our commitment to providing high-quality, well-rounded training for our students. By combining technical classwork with targeted strength and awareness training, we aim to support each dancer’s progress in a structured and sustainable way.
