Introducing Progress Charts - Supporting Student Development

We are introducing Progress Charts in selected classes as part of a new approach to supporting and communicating student development.

Following conversations with parents around understanding how children are progressing in class, we have taken time to reflect on how we can make this clearer, while continuing to keep the learning experience positive and encouraging for our students.

A Simple and Supportive Approach

Progress Charts will be introduced on a trial basis within:

  • Grade 2 Modern

  • Intermediate Foundation

  • Grade 1 Ballet

The charts follow a simple three-stage system:

  • Just Learning

  • Almost There

  • Got It

This allows students to see their progress in a clear and manageable way, without feeling pressured or compared to others.

How It Works

As we work through syllabus material in class, teachers will update each student’s chart to reflect their current stage of understanding and development.

The charts are based on a version of the skills tracking system we already use within our Acrobatic Arts classes. This allows us to adapt a familiar and proven approach into other styles in a way that is age-appropriate and easy for students to understand.

This is not about rushing through steps or achieving perfection quickly. Instead, it provides a visual way for students to recognise their own progress over time, building confidence and motivation as they move forward.

Supporting Communication with Parents

We understand how important it is for parents to feel informed and involved in their child’s journey.

Progress Charts will be shared with parents on a termly basis, giving a clear and simple overview of how their child is progressing within their class. This supports ongoing communication, while keeping the focus on individual development.

A Thoughtful Trial

This initiative will begin as a trial, allowing us to review how it works in practice and ensure it is both meaningful and beneficial for our students and families.

Our aim is always to provide a supportive, structured environment where each child can progress with confidence - and this is another step in that direction.
