Inside Our Senior Summer Dance Project
This summer, our senior dancers came together for a focused and inspiring Summer Dance, giving them the opportunity to challenge themselves, explore new styles and continue developing as dancers.
Seven dancers from Grade 3 upwards took part in this year’s senior project, enjoying two days filled with a variety of dance experiences including ballet, jazz, pom, character, contemporary and jazz.
Challenging Themselves Through Dance
The aim of Senior Summer Dance was to give dancers the chance to step outside their usual weekly classes, experience different styles and work with a variety of approaches to training.
Throughout the project, dancers were encouraged to embrace new challenges, push themselves and enjoy the process of learning.
From exploring character dance through Polish-inspired steps, to experiencing contemporary movement and working on ballet repertoire from Swan Lake, the dancers were able to broaden their knowledge and discover new aspects of dance.
Growing as Dancers
One of the most rewarding parts of the project was seeing the dancers approach each new experience with such a positive attitude.
Trying unfamiliar styles, working with different teachers and adapting to new challenges all helped build confidence, independence and resilience.
It was fantastic to see the dancers supporting each other, encouraging one another and being willing to have a go — even when something felt outside their comfort zone.
A Dancer’s Perspective
The dancers themselves summed up the experience perfectly, with one sharing:
“I quite enjoyed the ballet because it was different than usual and we did a dance from Swan Lake. The class that Ellie took was really good as well, but it was just really hot so it made it a bit more difficult. But overall I did enjoy it.”
We love this reflection because it captures exactly what the Summer Dance Project is about — experiencing something new, being challenged and still coming away feeling proud of what you have achieved.
Looking Ahead
The Senior Summer Dance Project was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the commitment and enthusiasm of our older dancers as they continue to grow.
Seeing them step up, try new things and embrace different styles was incredibly rewarding, and we are excited to see how they continue to develop throughout the coming year.
