Elevate Series Workshop Yoga, Breathing and Wellbeing with Sara the Contented Yogini
Our senior students (age 12+) recently took part in another session of our Elevate Series on Friday 27th March, this time welcoming Sara the Contented Yogini for a workshop focused on yoga, breathing and overall wellbeing.
As part of our year-long Elevate programme, sessions like this are designed to support our dancers beyond technique - helping them build awareness of their bodies, develop healthy habits, and understand tools that support both physical and mental wellbeing.
For many of our students, this was their first experience of yoga, and it provided a refreshing change of pace within their training. The session introduced a combination of gentle movement, strength, balance and guided breathing, all of which encouraged students to slow down, focus inward and connect with how their body feels.
Breathing played a central role throughout the workshop. Students explored how controlled breathing can support relaxation, improve focus and help manage moments of tension - skills that are highly relevant not only in dance, but in exams, performances and everyday life.
The session also included time for relaxation, allowing students to experience the benefits of rest and recovery. In a busy training schedule, these moments are just as important as the more physically demanding aspects of dance.
Sara created a calm, supportive environment where students felt comfortable trying something new. There was a sense of curiosity throughout, as well as a growing awareness of how these practices can complement their dance training.
The Elevate Series continues to reflect our commitment to developing well-rounded dancers - individuals who understand their bodies, manage their energy, and value their overall wellbeing as part of their progression.
Sessions like this remind us that strength is not only built through movement, but also through balance, recovery and self-awareness.
