Fuel for Success - Ending the Elevate Series with Amy Gullen
Our final Elevate Series workshop of the year brought together our senior students for an insightful session with personal trainer Amy Gullen, exploring one of the most important, and often overlooked, aspects of dance training: how to fuel our bodies well.
Throughout the workshop, Amy encouraged students to think differently about nutrition, helping them understand how the food they eat supports their energy, concentration, recovery and overall performance in class.
Fuelling the Dancer
Rather than focusing on restrictions or "good" and "bad" foods, the session centred on making informed choices that help dancers perform at their best.
Students explored topics including:
the importance of eating regularly
fuelling before class and performances
recovery after dancing
healthy snacks
hydration
and how balanced nutrition supports both physical and mental wellbeing.
The discussion encouraged students to see food as something that helps them dance stronger, recover better and enjoy their training.
Looking Beyond Technique
Dance is about so much more than learning steps.
At ABC, we believe that helping young people understand how to care for their bodies is just as important as developing strong technique. By learning about nutrition alongside their dance training, students are gaining knowledge that will benefit them not only in the studio but throughout their lives.
Reflecting on Our First Elevate Series
This workshop marked the final session in our first full year of the Elevate Series.
Over the past year, students have explored a wide range of topics, including occupational therapy, yoga and wellbeing, flexibility and conditioning, and now nutrition. Each workshop has been designed to complement their dance training while supporting their physical health, emotional wellbeing and personal development.
Watching our dancers embrace each opportunity with curiosity and enthusiasm has been incredibly rewarding.
As we reflect on a successful first year, we are excited to continue developing the Elevate Series and look forward to bringing even more opportunities to our students in the future.
A huge thank you to Amy for sharing her knowledge and helping our dancers better understand how to look after the incredible bodies that allow them to do what they love.
